Do you ever have problems with your kiddos rushing through their work and not doing their best job? Maybe your kiddos only use ONE COLOR when doing their art projects! Have you ever had a kid tell you they were done with their art project before you even had all of the papers passed out? Maybe you just need a classroom incentive to get your students to do their best work! Artist of the month has been a HUGE success in my classroom in getting the students to slow down and do their BEST WORK! Everyone wants to the the artist of the month!
Classroom Incentive – Artist of the Month
The artist of the month is as simple as it sounds! However, there may be many artists of the month! Artists of the month may be chosen for an art project or really nice handwriting! Sometimes I would choose one or two artists a week. I keep track of who is chosen as the artist of the month to make sure at some point everyone was the artist of the month.
I had some requirements to getting picked to be the artist of the month.
- Their art had to have 5 colors.
- Their art had to have 5 details. (This may be a requirement later in the year)
- They had to do their best work.
- They couldn’t be done until the music stopped playing on the iPad. I used the iPad as a timer for work time during art projects.
Displaying Artist of the Month
The child would win the Artist of the Month Award! You can download the awards in the shop for FREE!
I display the art with the award in the hallway for everyone to see.
The kiddo would get their picture taken with their award.
At the end of the month all of the artists of the month would get the opportunity to eat with the teacher!
