Ending Sound Gingerbread Lotto

November 28, 2017 theteacherbin Leave a Comment

When I think of December I think about all my Gingerbread Activities. One of the skills I’m teaching is ending sounds and of course the game has a Gingerbread theme.  It’s fun to watch and listen to the kiddos as they’re playing this game and enunciating the ending sounds.

Ending Sound Gingerbread Lotto

The Ending Sound Gingerbread Lotto is played individually by each kiddo.  It gives practice with working on each letter sound and  it can be completed quickly.  This game can be found in my Teachers Pay Teachers shop!

There are 8 Lotto Boards – Letters  (b-f-m-s-d- l-n-r-p-t) with 10 Sound Picture Cards for each letter which equals 100 cards.   I like the lotto boards because each board has letters in different spaces so the kiddos cannot copy each other while playing.

How to Play Ending Sound Gingerbread Lotto

The game is played with Picture / Sound cards  spread in the middle on the playing area face up and the lotto boards boarder on the edge.

Each kiddo chooses a picture card to match the letter on the lotto board.

When all sounds are covered the game is finished.

Teacher Tip

Before I play the game I have all of the sound pictures on a full sheet of table.  (For example, a full sheet of letter picture sounds is on table 1,  a full sheet of letter picture sounds on table 2 etc)    The kiddos work together and name each picture at their table. After they’ve completed the picture card at their table the class rotates to another table and do the same.  It keeps the kids more actively engaged and is much more effective than the teacher holding up each card and going over them with the whole class.

Ending Sounds-Often when children and even adults talk, they leave off the ending sounds of words, so enunciating and exaggerating  the ending sound is important.  Playing ending sounds games like this are so good for reading development.

Gingerbread Workshop

This game would also be an awesome addition to a Gingerbread themed workshop (Read all about how I set mine up!)!  I have a week where I set up a Gingerbread workshop each year.  Workshop encompasses math centers, literacy centers, writers workshop and more in a fast, efficient, and effective way.  You can get everything you need to set up your workshop for free.
