Are you looking for a way to add the excitement of the Winter Games in South Korea in your classroom? Winter Sports Workshop is the resource for you. Your kiddos can be participating in Opening Ceremonies, tournament games, exchanging pins, and more. They love this unit and it elevates the enthusiasm for the Winter Games.
I do Workshop every day and have been doing so for my 36 years of teaching.
I love workshop because all the kiddos work at their own pace and always moving forward from job to the next job. The only exception is, before the kiddos can move to the next job I have to see the current job they finished. In other words my eyes see all the kiddos work. I can make corrections, watch letter and number formations, neatness, and accuracy.
Every week or two I have a different theme to my workshop. This week is Winter Sports Workshop. I’m going to share with you how fast and easy it is to set up my Winter Sports Workshop. I use Workshop in place of math centers and literacy centers as I find it more effective and efficient. Need to get your workshop set up? Winter Sports Workshop Job 1
Job 1-Tic Tac Toe Tournament
The game is part of my “Winter Sports Tournament”. It is a partner game and I set it up on a tournament bracket. As the kiddos win, they keep playing winners in the bracket until there is a Champion. This job may be job 1 for a few days.
Teaching Tip: Before the kiddos start this tournament I send a letter home and tell the parents we are having a Tic Tac Toe Tournament in school and they might want to play it at home for fun.

Job 2-Opening Ceremony and Country Flags- Winter Sports
It’s Opening Ceremonies and the kiddos love drawing a name label for a country and a flag! The kiddos get the black and white flag. They color it and glue it on the flag information sheet. The flags I chose for this resource were countries that have been medal winners in winter game sports. Teacher Tip- Many of the flags are simple so I often give the kiddos a blank white or the black lined flag and they use construction scraps to create the flag.

Winter Sports Workshop Job 3
Job 3-Student Winter Sports Book
The kiddos fill in and illustrate pictures for ” I am a Winter Sports Star”. Before the kiddos start the student book, make sure they read the Winter Sports book to know some of the athletes. I remind the kiddos that each page of the winter Sports Book needed 5 colors and 5 details.

Winter Sports Workshop Job 4
Job 4-Segmentation and Blending- Winter Sports
The kiddos look at the picture on the ski hill and sound out each sound by using magnetic letters or Scrabble tiles to fill the squares and make the word. The data sheet has 8 words to write, but I had the kiddos start out by only writing four words. It’s important the kiddos listen and enunciate each letter sound.

Job 5-Graph the Winter Sports Equipment
The graph booklet includes coloring, counting, tally, graph, and add. I do one page a day for each Workshop. I copy and staple the booklet together for each kiddo.

Winter Sports Workshop Job 6
Job 6-Color the Athlete
The kiddos color the athlete according to the country’s flag. I have to remind the kids they cannot add more colors to the clothing, just the flag colors the athlete represents. This is a cute project along with the flag information.
